Best ChatGPT Prompts for School Marketers

In this new digital age in which we live, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and apprehensive of new technological advances. Here at Interactive Schools, we firmly believe that instead of shying away from such developments, we should embrace them and learn how to use such advances to best assist with our day to day life.

ChatGPT is a language model developed by OpenAI that is recognised for its remarkable ability to understand and generate human-like text based on the prompts the user provides. Despite many schools viewing ChatGPT as a villain that can write essays for students who can then pass off as their own, let us shift your perception of ChatGPT to that of a valuable tool. It can be used to effectively prompt creativity and help with your marketing communications.

One of the best ways to use ChatGPT for school marketing is for the generation of creative social media content ideas. In order to get the best ideas that align with your school’s social media strategy, you should be specific with the prompts you use. Specify what platform you intend to use, what area of school life you wish to advertise, and the audience you intend to appeal to.

For example, instead of asking for ‘social media content ideas for a school TikTok’ you could ask for ‘TikTok ideas for a that showcase a school’s sports facilities and draws in prospective parents’, resulting in the ideas generated being relevant to your school's needs.

ChatGPT can also be a great help in repurposing content for different channels. Let’s say you write a blog on your sports day, yet you want to post an X post summarising the day as well, you could copy and paste the blog into ChatGPT and ask ChatGPT to ‘summarise in less than 280 characters’. This summarising feature can also be used to help generate meta descriptions based on the content of your school website pages. However, as ChatGPT is a language-based AI it is important to be aware that it can often interpret numbers incorrectly and shouldn’t be used as a calculator!

An example prompt on ChatGPT

If you’re ever feeling stumped on how to reply to negative feedback or a difficult question, you can type your less refined response into ChatGPT and type ‘reply to this feedback positively and reassuringly’, helping to ease any stress around difficult communications.

It is important to note that ChatGPT is pre-trained with it only having knowledge up to the year 2021 so you will be unable to ask for help with any new social features. You can use it like Google by asking any question but it's crucial for your prompts to be focused by relating it to a specific scenario. As you are talking to AI and not a human you will often have to adopt a trial-and-error approach to receive a result you are happy with.

Whilst ChatGPT can be impressive and a great aid to your school's marketing department, it will never replace your creative talents and your knowledge of your school. ChatGPT should be viewed as an assistant to your school marketing, not the driver. Content written by any AI Chatbot should always be fact-checked and reshaped to fit your school’s purpose and the message intended.
