Do you know your publications from your stacks? Your embeds from your unlisted posts? Join the #DigitalJedi @intSchools rebellion and become a master on #SocialMedia. This 5-stage guide will take you from an Issuu #SocialPadawan to a #DigitalJedi.

For some of you, today’s blog may be an introduction to Issuu (/ˈɪsjuː/), so here’s a brief overview of all you need to know! Issuu is an electronic publishing platform allowing its users to seamlessly upload PDF files to create an attractive reading experience for visitors. In the age of worries over security and what we download, Issuu means that visitors to the site no longer have to download lengthy PDF files to their computer or mobile device. With over 3.3 million publishers on Issuu, it’s well worth making use of this platform.

So what is the big issue with Issuu? The answer is simple: it is not used effectively in your #SchoolMarketing.

So, how could your school start using Issuu?

  • Having an open day soon? Printed prospectuses are a thing of the past. Share your prospectus digitally through Issuu. You can then embed this digital prospectus on your website. Find out how in Stage 2 of Issuu training tomorrow.

  • Celebrating student achievements at the end of the year? Share these in an attractive and easily accessible digital booklet. As 21st century humans we are innately lazy. Gone are the days of having to read pages and pages of long news stories.

  • Have a summer camp or holiday camp coming up? Share details and photos on Issuu that is easily legible and colourful. Make sure to include a call to action, such as a phone number, sign-up form, etc. We’ll find out how to add website links in stage 3 of your training.

  • Does your school post a termly update/newsletter? Make use of Issuu to easily share it out through email with your parent base without spending a large amount of money on sending out printed versions.

  • Got another use? Let us know how your school uses Issuu in your #ParentComms or #SchoolMarketing.

Make sure to check back each day for our 5 stages to becoming a #DigitalJedi on Issuu.

Without further ado, let’s get stuck in to stage 1.

First things first, find your PDF that you’d like to upload.

Next, press the magic + button in the top-right corner to begin uploading.

Give it a title: This section is self-explanatory. A short, snappy title will do the job here just fine.

Add a description: This box holds more value than the title box. A good description will make your publication easily discoverable through search engines and improve SEO. Make sure to include keywords that sum up what your document contains and monitor traffic to see how this could be improved in the future (Find out how in Stage 5 of your #DigitalJedi training).

IMPORTANT! You can have a beautiful description but it’s almost useless without clicking one VITAL box.
